Why can JW's attend funerals or weddings in a church?
by QuestioningEverything inwhat is the reasoning/policy behind the practice that a jw can't attend an event such as funeral or wedding in another church?
i know of someone that didn't attend her older sisters funeral because it was held in a baptist church.
she waited outside until the service was over and then went to the family dinner afterwards.

Muslims and the Jehovah's Witnesses
by Tameria2001 infirst i want to say that i don't know very much about the muslims, and what i am going to say is not attacking anyone, but instead, it was something that was said to me by a muslim man a few years back.. back in 2004 my husband and i found ourselves in a homeless situation.
his job had ended because the plant that he was working at, had shut down, and was sent off to china.
at the time our two sons were still very young, so we ended up staying at a couple of different homeless shelters until my husband could find another job, which took a total of three months before he found a new job, in a new state.

Smiddy is not correct. Most Muslim countries are very tolerant. The ones that are not are the exception. What is law and what is simply frowned upon are two different things. Just because societies may be a super majority of one faith does not mean that other people in those countries do not exist. You are making sweeping generalizations about Islam. And the Middle East isn't the only area in the world where Muslim-centric countries exist. You need to travel more and have some Muslim friends.

smiddy3,
I knew several Witnesses from Islamic countries. They indeed do still preach in those lands. You need to brush up on Islam and the Middle East my friend. I cannot think of any Islamic countries where Christians do not exist, even in the minority, so it's pretty racist to throw that out there about Islam and Muslims. Maybe ISIS tried to do something like that but in almost all Muslim countries there are people who live there of other faiths. Don't be so ignorant. -

Russian gunman raised in JW family
by Alex Bogdanov inthe link bellow is sort of ok. i could not find a decent article in english language about this, but russian media is exploding.
2 days ago a teenager killed 19 people and injured dozens and committed suicide.
he was raised in a jw family.

Take what the Russian government and press says with a grain of salt. This is the same people who are going around saying JW elders were found with AK-47's and bombs, because they have labeled the JW's a terrorist and extremist organization. Anything the Russians say is suspect at this point.

Do You Know Of Anyone Who Left JWs And Then Decided To Return?
by minimus inquite a few years ago there was a poster here that left the religion because he knew it was simply not true.
however, he returned to jws because he wanted to be with his family.
i don’t know how he is doing but gumby was his name.

It seems that there are a lot of ex-JW's going back of late. More than I've ever seen.

I yelled at dubs today ( again )
by kairos inso i roll up to the job site and looky there, two uber pioneer dubs dragging themselves down the sidewalk.
both ladies are in there early 60's and born in.. my heart started pumping, but i had to act.i was directly across the street from them.
i walked right to the sidewalk and said in a very loud, but not mean voice: "you can't teach overlapping generations from the bible!!

You are a jackass for yelling at anyone. Especially old ladies. What a fool.

Banners for London Protest
by Farmer Jim1 inhi folks, i’m attending the london protest at the excel convention in august and am making some banners.
i’m aiming for short but memorable sentences that will stick in jws minds and also make them laugh a little at their own organisation.. my best so far is ‘this is not a protest, it’s an overlapping protest’.
has anyone got any ideas for more?.

Whenever I saw protectors at assemblies I thought they were mindless idiots. Same as I do when I see them outside the company I work at. It's a waste of time.

Realization of something very close to a supernatural force but scientific
by Bad_Wolf inafter finding patterns in lottery numbers and thinking about if random truly exists, i also flipped a coin for awhile.
i was counted how many times i would get heads and tails and if they would equal out in the end.
if heads slowly was getting ahead too much, i would suddenly get a bunch of tails in a row to almost equal it out.

Dear Bad Wolf,
A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.

Have Artifical Intelligence Run A Site That Deprograms Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brokeback Watchtower inwith all this talk about ai taking over jobs and finding cures by feeding it proper input data and a whole host of other tasks why not have scientist put up a site run by artificial intelligence to deprogram people from cults and offer them counseling as what to do after leaving the mind control cult.. i know this might be a very touchy place to put ai i think it would offer scientist working with ai to test its capabilities and do a public service at the same time.. perhaps offer it honestly to the public who are having doubts about a specific organization that is unduly controlling their lives.. and great if that would pass a turing test:.

You obviously have no idea how AI works. Also, in North America people have the freedom to do whatever they want, believe whatever they want, worship whatever they want, etc. What you are proposing is rather chilling, un-American, and short-sighted. Who gets to decide who needs to be deprogrammed? It all sounds rather like what the Nazi's had in mind. If individuals don't want to follow a tenet then that is their right. It isn't anyone's right to tell other people what to do or think. You really need to do a self-examination my friend.

Research help needed: knowledge of Knights Templar and Masonic history vital
by Fay Dehr ini am in conversation with a uk historian regarding some knights templar locations, where jws have built buildings.
*** this is serious research - not a joke *** .
i am not - and do not wish to be - a conspiracy theorist, but something has come to light in the uk and i lack the knowledge of knights templar + masons.

You poor soul. Go on and get a life and stop searching for breadcrumbs of conspiracy theory that do not exist. Free yourself! Free your brain! Free your soul, mon (insert Jamaican accent here!).
Freemasons and the Knights Templar are convoluted tropes that uneducated people try to connect using casual connections to every government bungle, every religion on earth, every thread of history, every negative or strange occurrence; and all of it is lunacy. The sinking of the Titanic? It was Freemasons. Jack the Ripper? Probably a Freemason. Lee Harvey Oswald? Freemason. Elon Musk? A descendant from a long line of Knight Templars. Shirley Temple? Mini fembot controlled by aliens. 9/11? It was George Bush. Martin Shkreli?—well he’s just a rich, entitled jerk with a one-of-a-kind Wu Tang Clan album. Dixie’s Midnight Runners? Nobody can explain them! Point is: there is no connection between the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Freemasons, Knights Templars, Ancient Aliens, Chevy Camaros, or Sasha Baron Cohen. It’s all fruit-loopy conspiracy theory that feeds into one’s insistence on having to prove their ex is the monster and they are not when really maybe both of you were just not into each other. I am truly amazed that throughout my lifetime of many, many years I’ve watched mostly rather non-educated ex-witnesseses read a book or find a website or hear a rumor and somehow think that they are the first to discover some amazing connection to their ex-religion that will finally take them down, or expose them, or find some meaning in the mistake they think they’ve made by wasting their life as a JW. It’s like getting divorced, because you don’t like your mate anymore; and then after the fact spending years trying to prove they may or may not have cheated on you from something you may have casually come across. You are broken up. You are free. You don’t have to justify the validity of your breakup. You are done with them. It is all cognitive bias. It’s projection. It’s not real. Go read a great book or go to Crater Lake or write a poem. Anything but waste the time of your precious life. You only have one life! Don’t waste it.
